How did Like 'da Fish get its name?

Like 'da Fish was born following a dive trip to the island of Roatan, located just off the coast of Honduras. During the trip, a dive master commented that our little group of divers was Like 'da fish.

So when we decided to open a shop, there was only one name that fit!

Our goal is to help promote the dive lifestyle, by teaching people to dive, keep them diving, and exposing divers to the wonders of the underwater world.

Do I need to be an “athlete” to be a Diver?

No not an athlete, but you do need to be comfortable in the water.

Diving is the great equalizer. Regardless of your skill level in sports, everyone is on the same plane when you start diving.

Diving is great exercise, all the benefits of a good workout, coupled with the stunning beauty of the underwater world.

Do you run out of air underwater a lot?

One of the most popular misconceptions about diving is that you can easily run out of air under water.

Not true, we plan every dive to allow more than adequate air to return safely to the surface.

Diving is dangerous?

I saw a TV show about divers being bit by sharks all the time?

Another common misconception is that when you are diving in the ocean, you will always be under the threat of a shark attack.

Few divers ever have the opportunity to even see a shark during normal scuba dives, except for very mellow nurse sharks.

We teach our divers to be respectful of the environment, to not disturb marine life, and to protect our underwater world.

Doesn’t it take hundreds of hours to be become a diver?

No, we focus on over learning, not hours. Unlike some educational programs, that skim over material and have you perform a skill once; dive training is all about over learning.

The skills needed to be a safe diver are very basic: breathe, swim, stay neutral, clear mask, clear regulator, come up slow. We will do those skills repeatedly until they become second nature, in that way you will over learn the skill.

It’s not about time, it’s about building confidence, which will come quickly

If your equipment fails under water, you will drown.

Unlikely, we dive in buddy pairs.

Just like in many other sports and occupations we always work in teams, so too in diving. If you have a problem your buddy can help you, including sharing air.

More importantly, we teach a methodical system of equipment checking, dive planning, and emergency procedures that helps to reduce and control risks.
