St. Croix 2011 – Diving with a Living Legend In December, Leigh and I made a quick trip to St. Croix as guests of Dive Experience, which is owned by Diving Legend Michelle Pugh. Michelle was inducted in the Woman Divers Hall of Fame in 2004, for her outstanding achievement’s including, being the first American woman to teach diving in Russia, diving with the killer whales, and establishing the mooring system on St. Croix.
Each night was a new adventure as we sampled the nightlife along the harbor board walk. Mid-week, we shifted from diving to touring around the island in a jeep. Great weather 82 degrees above the water and below. Made new friends and look forward to a return trip.
Utila 2011 We ventured back to Laguna Beach Resort in February of 2011, with 24 daring divers and family in tow. Like our September 2010 trip, most of the travelers spent in the Newark Hilton. We left for the airport a little early Saturday due to it being peak travel time. The flight was comfortable and relaxing, 4.5 hour direct flight, arriving on the Honduran mainland around noon.
The first group of 12 ensured all of our rooms were ready and laid the ground work for the next wave to arrive. The second group arrived just at sunset, and in time for a feast.
Utila 2010 Our trip to Laguna Beach Resort started out with Friday night (9/17) The flight was comfortable and relaxing, 4.5 hour direct flight, arriving on the Honduran mainland around noon. We were greeted by a resort representative, secured our baggage and boarding pass for the charter flight, grabbed a snack, and took off for Utila just after 2:00 pm.
Bonaire 2010 Diving in Bonaire, is much like its sister island Curacao. Slow relaxed dives, coupled with exciting wall dives. Bonaire is home to some of the While visiting the island make sure to do a wreck dive of the Helma hooker and see how many stars you can find, or visit Flamingo Beach, the dive the spot where Captain Don, yes the famous founder of Diving Bonaire, first landed (ok the boat sank). In addition, watch out for sea horses, the area is filled with them.
Curacao 2009 Part of the ABC Islands (Aruba, Bonaire, Curacao), Curacao is a Dutch Colony filled with quiet little dive resorts and picturesque dive sites. Diving in Curacao is relaxed; sea horses abound, as well as tons of other Top side, vacationers can go horseback riding take an ATV adventure or enjoy the beautiful beaches for just kicking back. Diving ranges from the calm shallows reefs, to deep wall dives. Do not miss the chance to dive the Mushroom forest. This dive site is reminiscent of a lost world, with mushroom shaped coral heads that are stacked on top of the other. Looking up for 60 feet, the scene is much like an image from the movie "Lord of the Rings".
Cozumel 2007 Accessible from most northeastern airports, Cozumel is both a divers and vacationers dream. The island sits a top a reef that promises nice Do not forget to take an excursion to the mainland to dive the Cenotes in the Yucatan Peninsula. The Island offers both dive focused resorts and five star vacationer resorts, that can include outstanding dive service packages.
Roatan 2007, 2008, 2009 We have made three trips to Roatan, which is the largest of the Bay Islands. Roatan is where Like ‘da Fish got its name (See FAQ’s). Roatan provides a breath taking escape form the hustle of the modern world. Leave your worries and your watch at home. Welcome to ‘ish’ time. Yes, life is simpler here.
While on Roatan, make time to travel to the dolphin institute at Anthony’s Key Resort. Here you can experience a wide range of encounters with dolphins from simply swimming with them to full diving in open water. For the more daring there is an outstanding shark excursion on the east side of the island. Lastly, no trip to Roatan is complete with out at least one dive in Spooky Channel. The Channel was formed by years of tidal currents and fresh water run off moving out to see through the off shore reef. What remains is a stunning deep-water channel that runs from Sandy Bay to the open water. Huge caverns filled with fish, eels, and the occasional ray give more than adequate wow to a dive here. http://www.roatanisland.net/dive-sites-1-5.htm
Key Largo 2006, 2007, 2008 The Crew has made several trips to Key Largo staying in different locations both on the Atlantic and Gulf coasts. The Florida Keys offers Diving in the Keys can be from a dive resort - lodging and dive service combined, or through an a la carte type arrangement. Some of our favorite places include Amoray Dive Center, and the Marina Delmar complex with Ocean Divers. While diving in Key Largo do not forget to take a dive trip to The Christ of the Abyss on molasses reef, the USS Spiegel Grove, the Duane or the Bibb.
Jamaica 2005, 2006 Our Traveling adventures began in September of 2005, at Couples Negril Jamaica. We fell in love with the islands and diving, so much that While Jamaica is not your traditional dive destination, we found the all-inclusive resorts, like Couples Resort, to be a refreshing and relaxing environment. Most of the resorts in Jamaica provide diving services for the vacationer. Warm water, lush tropical setting, and friendly dive sites make Jamaica a nice place for families and divers traveling together.
